After the sudden resignation of Prosper Utseya, Zimbabwe Cricket Board has named all rounder Elton Chigumbura as their next captain.
Just after the Zimbabwe team returned from the T20 World Cup in West Indies, Prosper Utseya handed over his resignation letter to the Board.
Prosper Utseya said:-It has been a privilege for me to captain Zimbabwe for the past four years.
It has been an experience that has been fraught with many emotions, though I am glad to say that, overall, I have enjoyed the experience immensely and would not have wished for it to be otherwise.
I remain committed to the cause of the team and Zimbabwe Cricket. That commitment is something every international sportsman has. It is more so for those who, like me, have had the honour to lead their national sides.
Utseya captained the team from May 2006, for nearly four years which includes 67 One-Day Internationals and all of the 10 Twenty20 International. He is the economical spinner who will be retained in the team.
Elton Chigumbura being Captain said:- I am humbled by the confidence that the cricket committee and the ZC Board has shown in me to select me for this role.
It is a privilege to lead a team that I have been growing and playing with all these years and I look forward to the challenge.

Yet another tour for India facing the Neighbors- The Lankans. They have played the most number of games each other in the past 3 years. But, this time they will have a change as it is in Zimbabwe.
Yes, the Zimbabwe Cricket Board has confirmed the tri-series with India and Sri Lanka.
The Lankans, Indians and Zimbabweans with play from May 29th to June 9th, with the first three games played at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo and the next four including the final at Harare Sports Club in Harare.
And, its not only the One Dayers, but India will face the Men in Red for 2 Twenty-20 games on June 12th and 13th in Harare.
Its a jam packed Schedule for the Indians, now IPL, then after 4 days gap, T20 World Cup in West Indies, then more to come.
What can you expect when two second rated cricket teams play. Surely not a high scoring game. But you can surely expect a low scoring thriller. Yes, that was what happened in the Match between Zimbabwe and West Indies at the Queens Park Oval.As expected the bowling attack of West Indies was too great.
Whooooa! This is amazing. Zimbabwe had 7 ducks in the innings. Hamilton Masakadza and Elton Chigumbura was the pick of the batting team. They scored the bulk of scoring.
But all of it, the bowling needs to be described. Two bowlers- S Benn and Darren Sammy picked up 9 wickets together.
With 106 runs set to chase and Chanderpaul back in the team, it looked a cake walk. But, the African team didn’t allow that.
When at the 6th over, Adrian Barath fell, the West Indies batting started tumbling. Bad bad day out for West Indies.
All out for what 75 runs. The bowling of Zimbabwe was better. The leg break Googly bowler Greame Creamer was the pick of the bowling taking 3 wickets.
Indeed a great starting for Zimbabwe in the lone T20 Game.
