Ajantha Mendis: No more a mystery

Ajantha Mendis came into the Word of International Cricket as unpredictable and mysterious spinner. His off breaks, googlies and flippers bewildered all the Batsmen. He became the most successful bowler in his starting periods of his career.

The first victims of him were The Men in Blue- Indian Batsmen. He was famed after the splendid Asia Cup of 2008 held in Pakistan picking up 17 wickets in just 5 games and even earning the Man of the Series. When India were in the verge of winning the finals, The Mendis Magic picked up 6 wickets sending to hut all the prolific India Batsmen and only giving 13 runs. Just Awesome!

Even in the Test series against India, The Mystery Mendis debuted taking 8 wickets. He was paid for his precision as the Man of the Series again picking up 24 wickets. Again Remarkable achievement!

Getting some taste of the International Cricket, Mendis came to implement his Carrom Ball well. During his start, the Lankans played a lot against the Neighbor- Indians. Even during the test tour, The Mendis Mania came into action and troubled the Indians guys with the bat in hand.

Soon, when it came to spin for the Lankans, they first considered Mendis and almost forgot Murali. Every batsman in the World were trying to learn how to play against him.

In 2008, he won the EMERGING PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD presented by the International Cricket Council for his splendid year both the ODIs and Tests. The trip to Zimbabwe too came of well for him.

The next time The Mystery Boy played against India in 2009, he no more was a Mystery but became an ordinary spinner. Special Thanks to the Video analysis in India who removed the Mystery of his bowling and helped the Indian batsman the next tour. From the Videos of his bowling, it came to be found that the when he bowls the Carrom Ball, his run up speed is heavily increased. With all these, the batsmen started attacking this bowler.

The ‘No More Mystery’ bowler was a failure in both 2009 and 2010 T20 World Cup and didn’t contribute much to the Sri Lankan side.

The accuracy and efficiency came to a end when all batsmen played well out of his balls. Soon, he was dropped and the likes of Rangana Herath and Suraj Randiv came in place of him.

Now, taking 77 wickets in Tests, 44 in ODIs and 33 in T20s, Ajantha Mendis stands in a place to fill the shoes of Muttiah Muralitharan. The “No More Mystery” bowler can produce some magics and sparkle again as in 2008? If he still continues his bad run, Randiv and other spinners will take his place.

Better Watch out Mendis!!!
